Ticker is a code name for a contract on a stock-exchange, formed by one or a number of letters from the underlying asset name.

A full code of a stock-exchange contract contains a ticker, information on month and year of delivery.

For example, CLH9 is a full code of a crude oil contract, with CL meaning the underlying asset name, H meaning March, 9 – year 2009.
